On carefully selected weekends every spring and fall, the Loonatics gather in in Adirondacks to eat, drink and appreciate Mary's decorating. And continue construction on the garage.
The following is a photo journal of the most recent event.
Dock Doc paddling into the sunset. Somebody has to do it. |
Always great to be the only one on placid water. |
Or to just watch. |
It's easy to lose focus on the still water. |
But there is work to be done!
Planning the levitation floor in the garage. |
Sam Adams demonstrating that caution is called for no mater what the activity. |
This is the camp. Did I mention that the assessment recently tripled? |
Here's a place in town with more room than the camp.
I wonder if his assessment tripled. |
And here is the out building on his parcel.
Candy Canes are a nice touch in May, don't you think? |
But back to the camp...
Gimp 1 preparing for a reconnaissance mission. Eagle sighting. |
Mission accomplished, the eagle became an osprey. Still impressive. |
He let me know the portrait session was over. |
Paddling back, Gimp 1 diverted to this special place
where a tributary empties into the main stream.
The creek divides into three cascades,
providing babble that surrounds the intrepid paddler. |
What is it? |
Yield right of way when someone honks at you. |
But back to the tasks at hand...
The planning session for cutting down the dead tree.
The air temperature rose from all the brainpower applied. |
Skinny Cut-Boy adds his 2 cents to the plan. |
Sam Adams didn't get the memo from the planning meeting on tree drop coordinates.
He appears to be accident prone. |
One trunk down. One to go. |
Both trunks down courtesy of the one armed man.
We'd call Booboo "Lefty", but that's the arm that's missing. |
Jumping for Joy that the tree is down. Brave men, jumping on that dock. Chowdahead, on left? Not so brave. |
Severed trunks make good Loon perches. |
Evening FCV (Fluid Consumption Volume) is easily monitored by the number of images captured with the campfire as the subject.
Here are a few of the 30+ for your viewing pleasure.
Love those sparks. |
On occasion, one can imagine ghostly apparitions in the flames. |
"...and I bring you, FIRE!!!" |
I'm afraid Sam Adams sustained some brain damage when the tree fell on him. One-armed Booboo is about to provide him with the magic potion he is carrying. |
Potion applied, his condition improved somewhat. |
With the coals burning down, the Loonatics would soon be dreaming of construction. |
And in the morning...
Preparing insulation for the warm room. |
"I dunno. Why did we cut the notch in this sheet?" |
Successfully installed, the Loons test the levitation floor. |
One of the many staff photographers beside the new warm room inside wall. |
Stairway wall going up in sections. |
Good to have lots of "R" on that outside wall. |
Some of the crew put so much of themselves into the project. It is humbling to be around that kind of dedication. |
And then we had to paddle home. |
